Never was I ever curious what would duck meat taste like. I hear they taste like chicken so why even bother right? Nope. Judging from the immense photos of roasted duck scattered all over on the internet, curiosity has taken the best of me. Thus, I found myself in front of Hong Kong Roast @ Food Republic, IOI City Mall Putrajaya and ordered myself a plate of wanton noodle with roasted duck.

One of my favourite Chinese dishes is the wanton noodle. What can go wrong with juicy roasted duck as a substitute for the usual chicken? Nothing. I've always been a big fan of dry noodles especially wanton noodles and this dish was perfect. The noodles had the perfect balance of sweetness and savoury plus a little bit of action from the wanton soup gives the whole bite a wee bit of blackpepper-ish heat.
Moving along to the roasted duck. I hear that duck meat is smelly, not as tender yet has crisp skin and if it's not cooked right, it could contribute a bad duck experience especially for first timers like me. However... I hit the jackpot. For now. The texture is apparent from chicken yet I enjoyed the challenge. The duck itself was pretty bland however when paired with a slurp of the wanton noodles, I closed my eyes and enjoyed every flavour just like they do in tv commercials minus the elegance. In short, my plate was very much clean after. In short short, I LOVED IT. For just RM10.90, the generous portion is sufficient for my tummy however I don't mind calling for seconds. Heh heh.
Why at Food Republic you may ask? It's just a normal food court you may say but I didn't know any restaurants that serve Halal duck meat cooked in Chinese style. Though when I asked the cashier (a guy of different nationality) if the meat was halal, he rolled his eyes and sarcastically answered me, "Kalau tak halal saya tak panggil akak datang beli sini." Ooooooookay *raises two hands*. Believe in the words of this guy of different nationality and lose your doubts and fears.
I'm just happy that I now know what to eat whenever I'm at the food court :)
